Re: ID whiptails & startlight BN
I had guessed the whiptails would be a Rineloricaria species. They were in bad shape when we purchased them, which would explain why out of about 5 we are down to only one. None of them would eat, they all started dying off a few days apart. Now we've got the one, he's retained the most color and I ...

ID whiptails & startlight BN
Hubby and I purchased several whiptail cats last month. 5 or 6, now down to just one but the only survivor is doing well and suprisingly feeding primarily on meaty food such as thawed shrimp. The whiptails would refuse to touch any veggies, prepared or algae offered.

Re: ID "Clown Catfish"
Many thanks silurus!. He was the last one in the shop and we got him at a "discount price" to make up for the lack of eyes. I guess he would look nicer if he had eyes but I figure they're not such a huge loss. Since he's eating and quite active. Thanks again.

Re: Channallabes apus
That seems to suggest it wasnn't in good health to begin with (?) i have kept them in aquaria that are heavily stocked with bottom dwelling competitors & they have fed well. Was there anything noticeable about it's condition upon purchase? Did it look skinny? (for a long slim fish) Did you ...

Re: Channallabes apus
No pelvics so I don't know which.
Doesn't matter much now.
I decided to look for him and while all the midnight cats and tadpole madtom came out all I found of the Channallabes was a skull and spine.

Channallabes apus
A local shop got some of these in, the guy at the shop said someone told him they were "Typus typus" from Africa but I knew that didn't sound right. A quick search later I identified my fish as Channallabes apus. I purchased just a single one, not knowing whether they do better alone or in groups ...

Ompok bimac, What Are They Doing?
It was waterchange day for me yesterday and after emptying the 135 of it's 50% I went back down to add the hose that would refill the tank. When I looked over at the tank I found some commotion going on in one corner under a scraggly piece of grapewood.

I thought H. sp. 2 looked closest as well. $5 where I bought him.
A damn shame. He died early this morning. I felt terrible for the little guy. His stomach was grotesquely sunken in. He'd flop about when he tried to move and land in whatever position he happened to be in. A gorgeous fish, just wish ...

Stumbled upon several of these at an LFS. Nothing about them. The guy didn't even have them labelled as catfish their tank just had 4.99 scribbled on it.They're only about 1.5" TL. I figured it was some type of moth catfish and bought them before they all died off. Looking trough the profiles I can ...

These were the best pics I could get. This sucker's tiny, underfed and won't sit still.

Small Green and Gray Plecs
Gray base color with black spots and white tips to the first dorsal spine and the outer points of the caudal. He's got a notch at the top of his head. I wasn't sure if it was normal, if it was a defect or if he's just emaciated.

Spiny "pleco" ID
I don't know what it is. Ancistrus? Panaque? It's a "pleco" of some sort and that's about all I know. He's a prickly one. Very hairy caudal and sparse on the body. Sorry if the pictures aren't great. If better pics are needed let me know and I'll get them. The guy who sold him to me said he'd be ...
